Crisis over

Seems that BRAVE has resolved it’s leadership spill by initiating a counter spill to restore the old executor corporation.

I guess that’s evidence that an external alliance wasn’t responsible for the destabilisation, since you’d expect them to retain control and keep leeching members away.

Of course, there remains the possibility that there was someone pulling the strings, who decided to stop in order to keep BRAVE going rather than exsanguinate them (or was stopped by a rival spy ring), but that kind of thinking will just send you mad so let’s leave that alone.

Faith inhumanity

I would be disappointed if none of the people responsible for the collapse of Brave Newbies were CFC spies or agents provocateur.

Bitterly disappointed.

T3 invention calculators

So, there are many sites that help you do the sums for T2 invention – what your expected cost would be with various skill levels, what the impact on cost-per-unit and ism-per-hour is with decryptors etc.

And yet, I haven’t found anything equivalent for T3 cruisers/subsystems or destroyers.

Did I overlook something, or do they not exist?

Ever wondered whether any Eve-related social events are happening near where you live?

Wonder no more, because EveMeet will tell you. Brought to you by one of the organisers of Eve Down Under (and CSM10 candidate) Bam Stroker, the site lets you advertise your next pub crawl as well as search for events hosted by others. Eve Single Sign-On is coming soon, for those who don’t feel like registering via email.

(Market) Stocking Stuffer

I have been toying with being actually useful to my alliance by stocking the local station with stuff. So far I have about 50 items up there, with a view towards boosting that considerably over the coming weeks. I’m not alone in thinking this, so perhaps we can split the effort required.

In other news, the Proteus release is due in mid-January, so I guess it’s time to work out which of the rebalanced recon ships will actually be useful now.

open-source alliance-auth

The 99 Percent alliance has has open-sourced their authentication code, so you can make some small changes and hook up your own forums, jabber and voice chat servers.

I probably should investigate this further; it looks pretty cool.

A game dev talks about the Free2Play model

Game designer Jeff Hamilton did an Ask Me Anything on Reddit, and was asked about payment models:

Welp, this is a big question. I want to make absolutely clear that when I’m answering this question, it’s both well-written and to-the-point. So I’m going to write you up a response at lunch, probably, and post it then.

The full response is quite long, so I’ll just provide the links:

Check it out.

I’ll leave you with another quote of his:

That’s why I liked League so much when I first played it – money = cosmetics only, not mechanical power. All mechanical power (runes, masteries) is earned by playing the game.

It made me realize that the competitive integrity of the game is not intrinsically tied to the business model. The business model just creates strong incentives to damage the game’s competitive integrity. Careful process to protect game design can allow a game-as-business to succeed as best as possible, while allowing game-as-art to thrive as well.

Just something to think about when considering the business models of Dust, Valkyrie and Legion.
