TSOLE vs S.A.L.U.K.I.

We attacked them tonight with our B team. We were doing quite well for a while, lag was evident but manageable, but about halfway through we all encountered massive client-side and server-side lag and dropped to about two frames per second 😦

We lost by a fairly small margin, so hopefully we’ll arrange a rematch when we work out how to avoid the lag.

Gearbox lends Homeworld IP to spiritual successor

Oh, wow.

Hardware: Shipbreakers, the spiritual successor to the Homeworld franchise being developed by founding members of Relic Entertainment, is now, thanks to Gearbox Software, officially a Homeworld game.

The game will now be titled Homeworld: Shipbreakers as part of a deal signed by Gearbox and developer Blackbird Interactive at PAX. What’s more, Gearbox Software will help Blackbird complete the game with the help of financial and production resources, CEO Randy Pitchford told Polygon today.

I got into Eve largely on the back of games like Homeworld, and I suspect there has been a lot of cross-pollenisation between the games.

While I expect Gearbox to screw up the actual in-space Homeworld games, I have higher hopes that Shipbreakers will deliver on its promises.

(I still expect Planetary Annihilation to be a better game, though, because the developers seem very competent at their jobs)

Southern Legion pulls out of Planetary Conquest

The press release is here, but in essence, we were really, really tired of the choice of server determining the outcomes of our PC battles. When the server went our way, we won; when the server went against us, we inevitably lost, so we decided to give it a rest for the time being.

I’m proud of what we achieved in our time with PC; at peak we controlled over 10% of all the districts available, with some great matches both in our time zone and out. I’m confident that when the issues are resolved, we’ll jump back into PC at a later date and reclaim our turf.

Just not right now.
